Swimming with whale sharks is an extraordinary experience. To protect these gentle giants and ensure the safety of all guests, Whale Shark Tambora Bay follows responsible wildlife interaction guidelines. Please read and follow the rules below before entering the water.
Prohibited Items (Do Not Bring Into the Water)
For your safety and to protect the whale shark habitat, the following items are not allowed in the water:
Jewelry & Metal Accessories
Items such as rings, bracelets, watches, or other metal accessories can accidentally injure the whale shark’s sensitive skin.
Camera with Flash
Flash photography can disturb and stress whale sharks. If you bring a camera, please ensure the flash is turned off.
Chemical Sunscreen
Chemical-based sunscreens can pollute the ocean and harm marine life. Guests are encouraged to use reef-safe sunscreen.
Sharp Objects
Knives, tools, or any sharp items are strictly prohibited underwater as they may harm marine animals or other guests.
Swimming & Interaction Ethics
To ensure a safe and respectful encounter with whale sharks, please follow these guidelines:
Enter the Water Calmly
Slide gently into the water. Avoid jumping or making loud splashes that could disturb the animals.
Do Not Obstruct the Whale Shark
Always give the whale shark space and never block its natural swimming path.
No Touching
Do not touch, hold, or attempt to ride the whale shark. These animals must remain undisturbed in their natural environment.
Maintain Safe Distance
Keep a minimum distance of 2 meters from the whale shark’s body and 3–4 meters from its tail.
Do Not Chase the Whale Shark
Allow the whale shark to move freely. Swimming aggressively toward it can cause stress to the animal.
Follow the Guide’s Instructions
Your guide’s instructions are mandatory. They are responsible for ensuring safety and protecting marine wildlife.
Our Commitment to Responsible Tourism
At Whale Shark Tambora Bay, we believe that unforgettable adventures should also protect the ocean. By following these guidelines, every guest helps preserve the delicate marine ecosystem of Saleh Bay for future generations.
Together, we can enjoy the beauty of swimming with whale sharks while ensuring their habitat remains safe and sustainable.
